ARTIST STATEMENT

My work has always been a reflection of what surrounds us. Initially, my attention was focused on the physical space: from that perspective, the Emerging Properties series was born. As my approach evolved, I have moved from a physical perspective to a more philosophical, conceptual and intimate one. Responding to this transformation, my painting has gone from realism to expressionism, and in my last 2 series, Fragmented Memory and Road to Mictlán, I have reached abstract expressionism. My creative process has been changing but the use of color is a constant in all my series. I paint to question and provoke a reflection in the viewer regarding time and space we have to inhabit. I paint as an invitation to connect with ourselves and our environment. I paint because what surrounds me is magical and worthy of having its own visual narrative.
